About Sankalp Yoga Shala:
Sankalp Yoga Shala was created to provide an authentic yoga space that brings sincerity to the practice. Each and every one of us are complete beings - our happiness, health, and peace lie within us. Yoga helps us awaken this, reminds us of our power, and creates an unwavering belief in ourselves. During your journey, I am here as a source of support and guidance; to simply share and reflect what I have learned from my teachers. All you bring is your mat --- and your sankalp: your internal determination, willpower, and resolve to be your best self and dive inwards.

FAQ:
I was first introduced to yoga by my dad, someone who has stayed true to his discipline and sadhana his whole life. Growing up, he would share bits of his experience and how it can enrich our lives, thus inspiring me to pursue a deeper understanding of yoga.
Taking asana classes in university and self-studying yoga philosophy taught me the beauty of simplicity and the importance of self-contemplation. Eventually, I began to teach my peers yoga - specifically, the techniques that were helping me navigate college and its stressors with calmness and stability. I loved to share how yoga empowers us to look within, quiet our minds, and release our worries. After graduating college, I was sure of only one thing: I wanted to learn and experience yoga fully and from the source. Through my months of training in India, I experienced my own practice of yoga for what it actually is: a lifestyle and a discipline. My practice keeps me grounded, energized, and grateful! Practicing yoga is a journey and commitment. Along the way, I hope to help those around me seeking to learn yoga and experience how simple happiness and health is, once we look within.
Designed with the belief that anyone can practice yoga, mysore-style sessions is a traditional way to teach and practice yoga. Students are given a personalized sequence and practice at their own pace while the teacher guides and progresses the student with each session. The magic of mysore-style is the ability to go at your own pace, and to practice the same sequence until you progress onto the next stage.
Mysore Style is a traditional way to practice yoga. Students begin their personalized sequence at their own pace, meanwhile being guided by the teacher. The teacher monitors your practice, corrects your alignment, and provides a direction for growth.
Mysore Style was created with the belief that everyone can do yoga, according to their abilities and limitations. This unique class style builds consistency and self-reliance in a student’s practice. Repeated practice of the same sequence deepens the impact of the asanas; overtime - alignment becomes secondary, the breath lengthens, and the practice becomes meditation. It is a beautiful application of Ashtanga Yoga - The Eight Limb Path.
“Sankalp” translates to your inner resolve, specific intention, or your most heartfelt desire. Your sankalp is that decision you make to achieve something. Sankalpas are taken in the present tense, and generate immense will, energy, and truth. Lastly, it reminds you that whatever is required of you is already within you.
Your sankalp is an essential part of your practice, and life. hen one develops the patience and determination to practice consistently and regularly, improvements in the physical body and mind are a natural outcome.Yoga is a word interpreted in many ways, but to us, Yoga is how you live your life. This discipline is steeped in history, text, traditions, and tools that I hope to share over time. Its purpose is to clear the mind and maintain a state of inner happiness, stability, and gratitude. This comes when we begin to live each and every part of our lives with mindfulness: the way we sleep, speak, eat, work, etc. For many, this journey begins through a physical asana practice that helps to bring self-awareness and focus. Physical benefits and healing occur as a byproduct of a consistent and sincere practice.
Shala translates to home, and a “yoga shala” is a place where yoga is shared and experienced. Our purpose is to provide education, not exercise. We teach knowledge or tools that can be used out of the classroom setting — because the development of the mind or internal self is our main intention — be it through meditation, physical movement, or workshops. In a yoga shala, these ancient practices are shared in a respectful and traditional way.
I am grateful to learn Ashtanga Yoga under the guidance of Acharya Bharat Shetty and Prasanth Sir. Bharatha Yoga was founded with the vision of “health and bliss for all,” and brings this mission to life by teaching thousands of students how to build a safe and lifelong practice. We are taught alignment and technique are key to a safe and strong physical practice. This occurs when there is harmony of the body, breath, and mind. Furthermore, when one develops the patience and determination to practice consistently and regularly, improvements in the physical body and mind are a natural outcome. Lastly, Bharatha Yoga has taught me true yoga happens beyond the mat, and when we apply the same mindfulness into every aspect of our lives - happiness and health are bound to follow.
